I have 3 sons, this is what they do:
use the larger clippers, clip nail straight across, leave just a bit of white showing - not too long and not too short, clip the 'corners' just a bit - to get a boxy kind of look - without having any sharp edges.
by the way, most important thing about your nails is to keep them clean! a girl really likes that... ;)

NEVER cut your nails. Always file them on a daily basis. Otherwise, they lose their luster. Hope this helps, Pete.

Do have them long, a little white is okay. It's okay to file them so they're not rough.
I think that guys with long nails are gross, but at the same time I don't like the nails that are cut too far back.
Be sure they're clean also.
